How to help a rescue dog get adopted from your living room

Once a dog has been vetted and has recovered in foster care, they're listed for adoption. Then, for some of them, nothing happens. Our large-breed dogs in particular can wait a year or more without a single application. They're wonderful dogs. They're just big, and the people who would love them haven't seen them yet.

You can help change that from wherever you live, in a few minutes, using your phone.

Why Nextdoor

Instagram and Facebook help, but Nextdoor reaches people who live near the dog and aren't following any rescue pages. A post there lands in front of neighbors who might never have thought about adopting until they saw a face from a few streets over. We've found it works better than almost anything else.

How to do it

• Pick a dog on our adoptable dogs page or our Petfinder profile. The big dogs need it most.
• Save two or three of their best photos and copy their description.
• Post the photos, the description and a link to the dog's page. Write the first line in your own words; it reads much better than a copied headline.
• If you live outside Southern California, add that the dog can be adopted to any of the 50 states or Canada by someone willing to travel here to pick them up.
• Send anyone with questions to adoptions@letsrescuedogs.net or this website.

That's all it takes. Repeat it for another dog next month. If your schedule is packed, or you live far away, or your apartment doesn't allow dogs, this is one of the most useful things you can do for us, and you can do all of it from the couch.
