Theodore

Theodore is a 15-year-old beagle who spent his entire life outside. Fifteen years. By the time his owners wanted him euthanized, his body told the story of just how long he had gone without the care he deserved.

He was being eaten alive by fleas and flies. His ears were covered in painful fly strike. He was severely anemic from the flea infestation, and once we got him to a veterinarian, we also learned he has a heart murmur. We knew his life could not end like that, not after fifteen years of surviving. So we brought Theodore to safety and finally got him the medical care he desperately needed.

Underneath all of the neglect was the sweetest old man. Theodore does not ask for much. He does not need long hikes, endless toys, or a busy life. He wants to be near his person. He wants a soft place to sleep. He wants affection. He wants to know what it feels like to be loved and cared for every single day.

At 15 years old, Theodore is not looking for someone to give him a whole lifetime. He is looking for someone willing to make whatever time he has left feel like one. We cannot change the first fifteen years of his life, but we can make sure the rest of it looks completely different. No more sleeping outside. No more fleas eating at his body. No more flies attacking his ears. No more being treated as though his life is disposable.

Theodore deserves to spend his final chapter inside a home, beside someone who loves him, knowing he is safe. We are looking for the person who sees an old dog and does not think about how little time they might have together, but about how much love they can fit into it. Theodore waited fifteen years for this. We really hope he does not have to wait much longer.
